Booting to Last Known Good Configuration

Screwing around in your registry editor and need to go back to when it WASN'T screwed up? Well, rebooting in LKGC (Last Known Good Configuration) is exactly the thing you need!

What it DOES: LKGC will roll your current registry settings back to your last successful Logon Settings.

What it DOESN'T: 1) Reset filesystems (Other than registry files) 2) Restore deleted, or overwritten files. 3) Correct driver "Updates."

Now though this step by step is rather minute, it will demonstrate how LKGC works. Remember this trick at ALL TIMES when working around in your registry editor!

1)Your Desktop background is part of your registry, as it functions from within. So, what we're going to do is change the background. (Right click on the desktop, select properties, and then desktop.) We're going to call this change, "A."

2)Reboot Your computer, and verify that "A" is your desktop background.

3)Change your desktop image again (Right click desktop, properties, desktop) and select your new background. This will be "B."

4)Reboot. IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOUR BIOS screen clears, tap F8, or whatever your boot options button is. (If your colored windows loading screen pops up, you've missed the opportunity... Redo this step, WITHOUT LOGGING ON.)

5)Select "LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION," from Advanced Windows Options.

6)Verify that "A" is once again your desktop background. If so, then you've successfully rebooted to LKGC!

All done. :]
